2016 wasn’t a great year from a world-events perspective, but it was a fairly good year for my personal life, and anime played a large role in that. This is a year where I got multiple top 10 anime, and many that came close. This year’s best shows were incredibly varied in genre, and fans of anything had stuff they could love. It’s a year that reinvigorated my love for multiple franchises, and a year in which I feel as if I missed a lot even when I loved so much.
This was my favorite year of anime since joining the anime fandom, so I figured I had to make a top 10 list. This list isn’t super concrete; many of these shows could easily switch places based upon my feelings from day to day, but these are rough approximations of my general ranking. As always, this is very much based on my personal taste, and there’s no criteria. I’m just ranking my favorites of the year, and hopefully someone will enjoy seeing them. This post is a bit later than usual, mostly due to my penchant for falling behind on weekly anime, but it’s finally done. In addition, my post on Monogatari is finally done and typed up, and only needs a pass or two more alongside image additions to be published at long last. I took way too long on it, to the point that I just didn’t care about it for a few weeks, but I’m very happy to have it close to completion. Now I just have to work on a Simoun essay and 2016 top anime list. The only rest I get is due to procrastination it seems.

The year’s really rounding out now, and it’s going strong. I’ve put on hold or dropped nearly two-thirds of what I started this season, but what I’m left with is very solid, and I’ll still enjoy many I go back to. I remain convinced that this is the best season I’ve ever seen, and nothing could make me happier. Other than, of course, the fact that I finally finished writing my Monogatari essay. It’ll take some editing, but I can at least promise now that it really will be out soon, and having that weight off my back makes me feel great. Enjoy.

Not much to say this week. The season is slowly approaching its close, as I’ve put on hold more than half of what I wanted to watch this season. I need to marathon some of them over winter break, but yeah, good week. Keep Flip Flapping.

This week I put Fune wo Amu on hold. The show just isn’t really my kind of show, and put me off in a few too many key ways for me to keep watching it during the season. Like the rest I intend to get back to it, but who knows when. Other than that this week was fine. I want to put out non-recap content, but I’m really struggling to watch more anime than my weeklies right now, and the manga I’m reading are for a long term project that I’m nowhere near completing. Pokemon Moon is taking up my life which doesn’t help. Anyways, let’s look at this week’s shows.

This was quite a bad week for me, perhaps for obvious reasons, but I don’t want to dwell on it. I’m in a bit of a slump in terms of watching anime right now. I run into these about once a year, but now that I watch more weeklies it’s a bigger problem. For that reason I’ve put Drifters, Keijo, Occultic;Nine, MahoIku, and Izetta on hold for now. I do plan on finishing them, but right now I can’t motivate myself to do so. Other than that this was at least a good week for anime, so there was at least one plus to being awake this week.

I fell behind this week, but thanks to a four-day weekend I managed to pull through and catch back up. I’ve spent a lot of the last week formulating plans for writing projects that could take months to complete due to the necessary research, but it’s fun to embark on new adventures. For now I’ll just work on writing my Monogatari article and keep delivering these recaps. Enjoy!

This was quite a good week. The season continued to be strong to the point that the number of shows I’m watching is a burden, but it’s a blessing as well as a curse. I got a lot of my Monogatari re-watch done and should be finishing that up this week. I love the series, but it’s so dialogue-heavy that trying to watch it successively can be a bit of a slog. Kizu part 2 was great as expected. Anyways, here’s the shows:

Writing these takes an awfully large amount of work, though I suppose that’s mostly due to how many shows I’m watching, so I only have myself to blame. Anyways, this was a pretty good week for anime. I should be watching Kizu Part 2 by the time this post comes up, so next week should start off well. I’ve been rewatching all of Monogatari for an upcoming essay, but it’s taking a bit longer than I expected so there might be a long break between my soon to release essay and the Monogatari one. That’s enough talking about my plans for now, let’s look at this week’s shows:

Seeing how many shows I’m watching this season(16, and it’ll be 17 if I pick up Keijo), I figured now was as good a time as any to start writing about shows weekly. Making dedicated posts is too much work though so I figure I’ll just do a weekly recap. Weeks start on Mondays by this schedule, so Week 2 goes up to October 16th. Series will be ordered based on my current ranking of them. No pictures this week as I hadn’t decided to do this yet, but they should be here from next week on.
