Like many anime fans, I tend to start with a fairly large number of shows at the start of each season before dropping many of them by the second or third episode. I also tend to group the shows I plan to watch into two categories: shows I’m sure that I’ll watch, and shows which I’ll give a few episodes to prove themselves to me. Here’s my list of what I’ll start off with in winter season 2016.
Definitely going to watch:
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime 2: Akagami no Shirayuki was my favorite romance of 2015, and one of my favorite shows from the year as a whole. I’m sure the author and Bones will be able to continue to deliver the heartwarming romance of the first cour, along with perhaps a little more drama.
Boku Dake ga Inai Machi: Most of the shows I’m sure I’ll like are sequels or in some way connected to things I already love. This is one of the few examples where that it isn’t the case. I haven’t seen any other show with this premise before, and the manga so far has been very well received. Assuming that A1 doesn’t ruin the adaption, this should be a great series.
Haruchika: I have no real idea about the quality of the novels series this is adapted from. That said, I am a large fan of PA Works so I’m going in with high hopes. Even if the show turns out terrible, the art design will be enough to make it worth watching for me.
Dimension W: I have two main reasons for wanting to watch this show. The first is that the premise sounds interesting and manga readers indicated that it lives up to the potential in it. The other reason is that the robot girl is really cute.
Durarara x2 Ketsu: Anyone who’s watched Durarara this long will obviously want to see it to its end, and LN readers have claimed that this is the best part, going so far as to say the previous cour was all build up for this one. Needless to say, I’m hyped.
Going to try out:
Ajin: The idea of immortality having downsides has always been interesting to me, and the morality capable of being presented in a show with this idea has tons of potential. That said, I’m worried the CG will be botched or that the potential simply won’t be utilized. If properly done, this could be a fantastic series.
Musaigen no Phantom World: I’m watching this purely based on the fact that KyoAni is making this. I generally dislike this specific type of generic harem, so KyoAni would have to work miracles in order to convince me on the show. It could turn out to be another Amagi Brilliant Park, but it could also be another Kyoukai no Kanata.
Prince of Stride: Alternative: Madhouse is generally recognized to be a great studio, and I agree with that idea. The promo art is colorful and interesting, but seeing as it seems to be adapted from an otome game I’m worried it’ll take from too many of that genre’s romantic tropes. If it sticks to the sports or makes any romance decent, I think it’ll be a good show.
Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara.: This doesn’t look particularly amazing, so it all comes down to how well the comedy is done. Hopefully it turns out great, but my hopes aren’t that high.
There are other shows I plan on trying, but most of those I likely won’t be watching past the first episode. What shows do you plan on watching? Do you think there are any shows I should try? Let me know.
